Do not worry if people are not commenting. It takes time.
If you want to improve commenting, write pieces that you think warrant commenting. It is hard to comment on poetry, or very personal rants. It is easy to comment on ridiculous, funny or controversial things.
You'll also get more comments if you frequent other people's sites and leave comments. It's all about building a community.
Plus, respond to the comments people leave. It's polite to do so.
